Violinist Katherine Gilger is an active performer and teacher. Katherine performs regularly with the North Carolina Symphony and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. In Spring 2024, she toured with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on their California tour, performing in prestigious venues along the West Coast. She is also the Assistant Concertmaster of the Venice Symphony, in Venice, Florida, where she holds the Diane & James Crawford Chair. In addition, she has appeared with other major ensembles including the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Richmond Symphony, Charleston Symphony, and North Carolina Opera. 

Katherine holds both Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the Mannes School of Music in New York City, where she studied with David Chen, concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and renowned pedagogue Aaron Rosand. She also spend four summers at the Aspen Music Festival, where she studied with Alex Kerr of Indiana University and Paul Kantor of Rice University. As concertmaster of the Mannes Orchestra, she performed at prominent venues including Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium, and the New York City Center, collaborating with organizations such as the Martha Graham Dance Company, Mannes Opera, and The New School for Jazz.

An active chamber musician, Katherine has performed with members of the American Ballet Theatre, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. She was a member of the Mannes String Quartet and participated in the Orchestra of St. Luke's Chamber Music Mentorship Program. She is also an experienced recitalist, having performed across the U.S. and in New York City, at venues including the Bohemian National Hall, Frick Collection, Morgan Library & Museum, and Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall. The Cultural Voice of North Carolina describes her as a performer "with technical skills to burn and with just the right approach to music, from an expressive standpoint." 

Outside of her musical endeavors, Katherine enjoys traveling, hiking, horseback riding, and spending time with her family, friends, her adorable dog Riley, and her chinchilla Aski. 

Katherine delivers online private lessons to violin, viola, and piano students of all levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced and professional.

Katherine's schedule is the same whether you are taking violin, viola or piano lessons.

Discounted Packages: If you choose to buy a package of 4 or more lessons, you will receive an automatic discount. Recurring lessons payments are one of the best ways to save on lessons.

Cancellation Policy: Your private violin lessons must be canceled 24 hours or more in advance, or you may be charged the full lesson fee.
