Charlie Kanne is a violist currently based in New York City whose interests in teaching and performing span across many musical disciplines; from classical and historical performance, to folk and rock, to avant-garde. Charlie holds a Bachelor's degree from Indiana University, has studied chamber music with members of the Pacifica and St. Lawrence quartet, and has performed in masterclasses including for Pierre-Henry Xuereb, Roberto Diaz, and Jodi Levitz.

During his studies at Indiana University, Charlie was the violist of the Indiana University New Music Ensemble, where he premiered and recorded many new works by living composers. He also works regularly with living composers, including during the height of the pandemic, in order to share, program, and record their music. Charlie also performed regularly with the Terre Haute Symphony and Columbus Philharmonic.

Charlie studied violin pedagogy under the tutelage of Mimi Zweig, who currently heads Indiana University String Academy. He believes in encouraging students to engage thoughtfully and critically with music, as well as strongly encouraging curiosity, exploration, and the pursuit of musical interests of all kinds. Charlie's primary teachers include Stephen Wyrczynski and Spencer Martin.
